Press Release from Benton First Assembly

Tom Young, Children’s Pastor at Benton First Assembly, located at 1801 Hot Springs Hwy in Benton, Arkansas, 501.778.7597, will be walking 240 miles from the church property to the General Assemblies of God Headquarters office in Springfield, Missouri.  Tom is working to raise $24,000 to purchase backpacks filled with school supplies and toys for kids in Northern Asia.  Tom will be walking approximately 30 miles a day for 8 days beginning May 12th and arriving in Springfield, MO on May 19th.  Tom has been working hard since October to prepare for this journey.  He has lost over 50 pounds and walks every day, often times 10 miles or more in a day.  Tom has walked several days over 20 miles in a day to prepare.

Tom Young has been the children’s pastor at Benton First Assembly for over 10 years and has been working in children’s ministry for many years before this.  Tom decided to walk to Springfield to help raise money for this ministry after seeing the need presented at a BGMC Rally last October.  This ministry is instrumental in changing children’s lives in Northern Asia thru Blessing Backpacks and Compassionate Touch.
